Just got Mass Effect for the PC. On my first playthrough, and I just got to the Citadel after the Eden Prime mission. I am walking in the Presidium toward the Citidel Tower, and when I look at the Mass Relay monument, the game crashes, and I get a window:

That's a common problem and is a problem with the game. I can't remember them off the top of my head, but there are solutions for it on the official Mass Effect forums. If you look through the technical self-help forums for the PC version on bioware's site there are workarounds or fixes for just about every single problem reported so far with ME.
